A Bullet Journal is one of the most effective tools in your arsenal when it comes to achieving your goals, organizing your life and your mind. It’s also an amazing tool to cultivate healthy habits in your life. If you don’t have a bullet journal yet, here are 5 reasons why you should start a bullet journal right now.
It’s no secret that I’m a #BuJoAddict. One of my favourite things to do on the weekend is to sit down for a couple of hours, listen to music and work on my Bullet Journal. And if you think I’m exaggerating, I’m not, just check out my insta-stories! I have a highlight dedicated to my Bullet Journal!
But the reality is that I don’t always have the luxury to do sit and work on my BuJo. My weekends tend to be jam packed with errands, adulting stuff (so over it), spending time with family and my hubby, or working on the blog.
But what’s great is that I successfully figured out a way to JUSTIFY my Bullet Journal sessions!
Hear me out…
Whenever someone asks me what a Bullet Journal IS, I simply answer “It’s my brain on paper”. I use it my BuJo for everything and anything. From weekly spreads to tracking my habits and my goals to doing a ‘brain dump’ where my brain hurts because it’s so clogged up and I just need to write it down to clear my head (yes, it works!).
Once I realized how much I benefit from using my Bullet Journal and how much better it makes me feel, I did a dance of joy.
Are you telling me that there’s something that combines my inherent need to organize everything, to make constant lists (and then lists of lists….no, I’m not joking) but that’s FUN and CREATIVE and looks pretty?! OH MY GOSH. I’M IN HEAVEN!!!
Even though I know that not everyone is into the creative aspect of Bullet Journal, I still strongly believe that everyone can benefit from it. And you don’t have to make it super elaborate like mine. That’s the beauty of a Bullet Journal – you can make it as elaborate and decorated or as simple as you’d like.
If you’re not convinced yet (and if you can’t feel my excitement…), then here are 5 benefits of using a Bullet Journal and for your sake, I hope that it makes you start one!
{ Benefit # 1 | You stay organized }
Like I said before, I put EVERYTHING in my BuJo. I track my blog stats, my habits. I create weekly lists of things I need to do in life and for my blog. I schedule my workout sessions and general schedule for the week so that I know what to expect on which day. I put meal ideas. I keep all my passwords. I have a list of birthdays, books that I want to, movies I want to watch. I have a wishlist of things that I want to buy myself. I put monthly goals and keep track of my yearly goals to make sure that I’m on track. I mean… you get the drift, right?
This all helps me stay organized. I have everything on paper, right in front of me, and I checkmark when something is done or add things as they come along.
I literally feel like my head is more organized because I’ve been able to compartmentalize different areas in my life on paper. It’s the BEST!
{ Benefit # 2 | You have a central place for everything }
On top of feeling ubber organized (maybe obsessively so… #SorryNotSorry), I have everything I need in one spot.
This can be dangerous IF ever something happened to it, but don’t worry, my BuJo has a safe and cozy spot (but I won’t tell you where!).
If I need to look back at what happened two months ago or whether I completed a task, I can just look through it my journal. If I need to jog my memory for something that I need to do this week, I’ll look back the last few weeks of my weekly spread. If I want inspiration about the next book I want to read, it’s right there!
Everything is one spot. My goals for the year are there, which I always look back on when I’m setting my monthly goals. This also helps me keep track on my progress and determine whether I need to adjust my expectations of myself or whether I need to step it up a notch to reach my goal by the end of the year.
{ Benefit # 3 | You de-clutter your mind }
I’ve mentioned this before but I can’t emphasize this enough. If I feel overwhelmed, I will sit and do a ‘Brain Dump’ where I write down all the things that I’m thinking about.
The simple act of writing it out helps me be able to remove it from my brain and figure out a strategy to tackle what’s overwhelming me.
Because everything is in one spot, I’m able to look at my Bullet Journal every day and figure out my schedule as I go instead of worrying that I’m forgetting to do something. It gives me the peace of mind that I have a place where I can put everything and where I can refer to if I feel like I’m forgetting something.
{ Benefit # 4 | Personal growth }
This is an important one because one of the things that I adore about my BuJo is being able to track my habits so that I can cultivate healthy habits that I want to practice on a regular basis.
The habits tracker also helps me reflect on what’s working, what’s not working, what I haven’t been doing enough of and what I need to adjust for the following month.
For example, if I notice that I’m very tired, I can see whether I’ve been good about my nighttime routine or day-to-day habit of deep breathing and being in the moment. If I see that I haven’t been consistent with it, then it’s a good reminder that I need to be more aware of that next month.
Another thing that I love about my Bullet Journal is that I write down memories. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve written down so many amazing things that have happened to me, which is a wonderful and simplified diary that I can look back in the future to remember the little moments that I shared with my hubby for example.
This is also a great way to mindfully practice gratitude because if ever I feel down or stressed out, I can go through the memories and remind myself of happier moments and be reminded that I might not be feeling well right now, but this feeling will pass.
{ Benefit # 5 | Creative outlet }
Last but not least, one of the benefits of using a Bullet Journal has been that it combines my need to be organized and make lists all the time to my need to have a creative outlet where I can do my calligraphy (or faux-calligraphy) and use beautiful colours and imagery.
Because Bullet journaling is a time that I use anyway to organize my schedule, taking the extra time as a creative outlet is a way to treat myself to something that makes me feel happy, relaxed and inspired.
I genuinely get excited to work on my bullet journal. I love getting inspired from others and then creating a visually appealing spread that inspires me whenever I look at it!
{ The Lesson }
If you’re like me and need to be organized and love writing lists and maybe even enjoy being creative, I would highly encourage you to start a Bullet Journal because it combines a lot of positive and inspiring habits that can give fuel your energy and drive towards reaching your goals. And you’re having fun in the process! It’s a win-win if you ask me!

Bullet Journaling did miracles for my productivity and stress management! I’ve always loved to procrastinate, and found myself in last minute stress moments… Planning and writing everything down on paper keeps my head organised and makes every task a joy to complete! 🙂
Sepideh says
That’s amazing to hear Carlo!!!! My journal has definitely helped me stay more organized as well!
Denise says
Wow, this looks amazing! I’ve been buying a planner from the same company for years but I might have to switch things up and do a bullet journal next year.

I had a planner every year and even this takes a bit more time and planning, I enjoy it a lot more!

I love the idea of bullet journals! I have a planner that I decorate, which is so relaxing…so I bet this is too. I just wish I had pretty handwriting. LOL!
Sepideh says
It’s SO relaxing ! One of my favourite things to do !!!
Summer says
Okay. I have been wanting to try bullet journaling for awhile now but I have the worst handwriting haha and I’m nervous I’ll mess up (like spelling, etc.) – yours is SO gorgeous. I may have to actually at least TRY it out for myself!
Sepideh says
Please do Summer, it’s SO much fun! And don’t worry about messing up – you should my older pages haha
Deborah Hunter Kells says
I soo agree! Love my Bullet Journal – been doing it for nearly 2 years now – so it’s definitely a “keeper”!

Your bullet journal is serious goals girl!!! I just love how it can be such a creative space, but it keeps you organized as well! I definitely need to get my hands on one.
Sepideh says
Thanks Kristen!! I love my BuJo (if you couldn’t tell haha) and you should definitely start one, it’s so much fun!!
Kiara says
I’ve tried to start a bulletin journal, but it hasn’t been easy. I struggle with this because I am not creative at all, and I’m a perfectionist, so both those things are really working against me. Of course I would want to make my BuJo pretty, but I’m not skilled at all to do it. But I’m really hoping to try again if you have any tips!
Maxine says
Stickers, foil and glitter and washi tape are great for adding colour and art
Sepideh says
Definitely, Maxine!
Sepideh says
I feel you Kiara – I’m also a perfectionist but this has been a good practice to let go if I make a mistake or if it’s not exactly what I want it to be! I have another blogpost that I’m going to update that gives basic BuJo tips so keep an eye out!!
Kate says
I’ve always thought about starting a bullet journal, but haven’t yet! I love how you’ve designed yours, it’s sooo pretty! And sounds like it would definitely be helpful to plan out your day. Thanks for all the great info, as usual! Xoxo
Sepideh says
Thanks Kate!!! I hope you start a BuJo because it’s such a fun tool and you can make it so much more simple than how I’ve set it up!
Lisa says
I tried bullet journaling but it stressed me out because I’m too much of a perfectionist. I love looking at the layouts but I just can’t do it.
Sepideh says
Lisa, I’m the SAME! But it was actually a good practice not to get annoyed when I made mistakes haha
Samantha Mariko says
This is a fabulous post! It was really easy to follow and I enjoyed the visuals (you have such beautiful handwriting!!) I really need to up my game with the bullet journaling and this post has gotten me motivated!
xo Samantha
Sepideh says
Ohhh thank you so much for the feedback Samantha!! I’m glad that it was easy to follow because that’s what I’m trying to do !!!

I’ve said this before but I have to say it again. Your Bujo is GOALS 😍 I love it and it really does inspire me to start doing mine again! Although it would totally bother me to start it in the middle of the year because I’m weird like that lol but we’ll see!

Thank you Dee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you decide to start yours, send me pictures I want to see!!!
Sharon says
These are all true for me! I have been a journaler for years, but this year I opted to do bullet journal for my goals. I have accomplished more in 3 months than I normally do in a year! Thank you for posting.
Intuitive Wife says
Hey Seppy, so I’m not gonna lie, I think bullet journals are SUPER cute and I’ve debated starting my own…but then I see how pretty they look and think it must take so much time and effort to make them look that way.
I love lists and sometimes I can’t get to everything on my list. Do you find with your BuJo you’re able to complete everything you write down? Also, between working full-time, having a blog and having a life how do you find the time to create/maintain your BuJo? It just seems so daunting to me lol.
Btw your site looks amaaaazingggg!!!
Ana says
Do you ever feel the pressure to make it look as pretty as all the pinterest pictures? Does that take away from the relaxing part about it? I’ve been tempted to try bullet journaling but am worried that it’s just another form of ‘keeping up with the joneses’!
Sepideh says
HA! You should see my “ugly” pages! I don’t feel the pressure but I do like it to look pretty! But when I don’t have time, I definitely keep it simple!! I think when I have the time and mental space, I have FUN with it to make it look pretty etc. But when I don’t have time, it’s a matter of just sticking to the basics so that I can just be organized!
