Happiness seems like such an elusive concept to many, and I’ve been trying to learn more about it. And the more I learn, the clearer it is that happiness is something that you can cultivate.
Some of us are born inherently happier than others. But ultimately, happiness is something that we need to cultivate through our daily habits and routines.
Yes, there are some elements in your life that will make it easier to be happy.

However, when you have people in third world countries that have higher levels of happiness than some of us that have all our basic needs are met (and then some), then this makes you really question the basis of happiness: What is happiness? Why are some people happier than others? And can you truly be happy, no matter what?
Even though I truly live a blessed life, I too, have days where I don’t feel happy. And I get frustrated with myself because rationally, I know that I have everything that I need and that life is great. So why don’t I feel happy?

This is where your mindset and your thoughts come into play – you might rationally know that you’re okay, that you have everything you need, and yet, you still feel like something is missing in your life, but you can’t figure out what it is.
It’s in those times that you have to learn how to cultivate happiness from within. That you have to reach deep down, and think about everything you already have in your life and how your focus and energy is going towards the wrong thing.
Which is something that I am also constantly trying to cultivate and practice in my own life, and will continue to practice for the rest of my life.

And one practice that truly helps cultivate that happiness and awareness of my own happiness, is journaling.
I’ve talked over and over again about the habit of journaling. And I will continue to reiterate that journaling is one of the best tools that you can adopt in your life if you’re trying to better yourself, to learn and grow, and to become a better version of yourself.
And what better way to cultivate more happiness in your life by journaling about it, so that the thoughts can be anchored at a deeper level.

So here are 20 journal prompts to help you expand happiness in your life. I would suggest doing only 1-2 journal prompts in one sitting, to make sure that you are going in depth and really taking the time to reflect and think about the question.
Take your time, and even when you feel like you’ve answered the journal prompt, re-read your answer to see if any other thoughts come up.
Remember that there are no right or wrong answers. These are just your answers. And your answers will change with time as you bring more awareness to the topic of happiness. So make sure to re-do these journal prompts every few months to see how your perception has changed and evolved.
