Are you living your life’s purpose? Uncover and live your life’s purpose in three easy steps so that you can live every day with meaning and intention.
Every few months, I feel like I’m having a mini-midlife crisis, questioning the purpose of life, why I was put on this Earth, and how to live every day with meaning and intention.
Until I remind myself of something my sweet aunt told me a while ago (and I’m totally paraphrasing, she’s a lot more eloquent!) : The purpose of life doesn’t have to be something complicated or elaborate, it’s about being you and enjoying the pleasures in life.
And even though I still have to overcome this inherent belief that I have to change the world, it’s a nice reminder that the purpose of life starts small – be yourself and enjoy life.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I do believe that we each have a more specific purpose in life, but I still want you to remember what my aunt said because it’s an important reminder to enjoy the day-to-day life and that it’s okay not to over-think everything all the time (like I do).
How to Uncover your Purpose
1 | Ask Yourself The Right Questions
Rather than asking yourself “What should I be doing” or following the path that is expected of you, it’s important to take a step back and constantly re-asses your path, what you’re doing, your journey and what you’re learning. Make sure to listen to your intuition about what your heart is telling you to do.
A more empowering and inspiring question to ask yourself is: Who do I want to be? And I went more in-depth about this topic in this blog post if you want to read more about it.
Listen, I’m the first one to tell you that I got caught up in following the next “logical” step in life. I went from doing my Bachelor’s degree, to working for 2 years to gain work experience and then went on to do my Masters’ and then found a job in my field because that was the “logical” path to follow.
But turns out, that’s not what I want to be doing anymore.
My education taught me some (but not much…) life skills but the knowledge I learned …. kinda useless in what I’m doing right now (then again, when you have to read 200-300 pages of scholarly articles every week and debate in class about the theories and then constantly write assignments and argumentative essays…which I *guess* came in handy since I’m writing so much for the blog. But ANYWAY that’s besides the point).
When you ask the right question, even if you don’t find the answer right away, it stays in your subconscious and the answer will eventually come to you. If you set out the intention of finding your purpose, you will eventually find the answer.
2 | Know Yourself
When you know your strengths, your weaknesses and the skills you have, it’s easier to figure out what you want to do and what your purpose is.
The ideal formula is to combine your strengths and what you love doing … and you got yourself a winning combo. Even better is to combine that with making an income, but that’s another story altogether.
That’s why personal development and consistently working towards growing as an individual is an important part of life because that’s how you change and evolve, and through your journey, you uncover more and more and you discover new things about yourself.
The more you know yourself, the easier it becomes to weed out the things that you know you will enjoy doing rather than the things that you thought you should be doing.
3 | Be Open To Change
Like I mentioned before, your expectations and your path might not stay the same throughout your life. You might have an idea about your purpose and that might change with time, especially if you are consistently making an effort to learn and grow.
I believe that your life’s purpose will remain the same, but that the way you carry it out will change. As you go through different stages in your life, you will encounter different situations, different people and social settings, and in each of those, how you carry out your purpose will look different every time. Being adjustable and open to change and being able to adapt is important.
[bctt tweet=”Be open to change because your life’s purpose will change with time as you learn and grow and have new experiences” username=”seppyforlove”]
For example, I believe that my life’s purpose is to help others.
Within the context of my family, that will look very different than how I help co-workers for example, or my friends. How I choose to help others through my blog is also very specific to the context within which I’m operating.
Be open to the different possibilities of how you will carry out your purpose and how that will look in different settings and different times in your life.
How to Live your Purpose
1 | Stay True to Yourself
This is similar to the previous point that I made but when you know yourself, it becomes easier to stay true to yourself. When you know what your values are and what your purpose is, you are constantly reminded of them so that your actions and behaviour can be aligned with that purpose.
Another way to stay true to yourself is by constantly questioning your choices to make sure that they are aligned with your vision and your values. You might realize that your choices aren’t aligned with your values, at which point you can adjust yourself. OR you will come to realize that your values have changed and evolved, and you can therefore change your choices and actions.
The point is that to live your purpose, you have to stay true to your identity and your values because then you will always feel at peace with your choices and decisions in life, no matter what anyone else might say.
2 | Take Action
Isn’t it funny how something can be so obvious and yet we don’t do it?
When you’ve uncovered your life’s purpose, GO FOR IT. Do it! Make every effort and take the time to figure out how to live your purpose, every day! It can be small steps or it can be a BIG step! Whatever it is, living your purpose is as simple as #JustDoIt.
[bctt tweet=”Living your purpose is as simple as taking a step every day that brings you closer to your life’s purpose” username=”seppyforlove”]
You should feel empowered and believe in yourself that you deserve to live your purpose, every single day, because that’s how you will feel more fulfilled and inspired every day.
3 | Consistently Grow and Adapt
Make consistent and daily efforts towards your personal development, which will help you refine your life’s purpose and discover new strategies you can live your purpose every day.
Personal growth requires self-reflection, a mindset of growth and learning – seeing yourself as a student of life where you are constantly trying to learn so that you can grow. And you need to learn about a variety of things because you might learn something unexpected the more you expand your range of knowledge.
By growing and learning more, it increases you capacity to adapt and be able to adjust to anything that comes your way. This also gives you the ability to realize that your life’s purpose might change and evolve with time as well and that it might become more specific and then you can change your approach and strategy as you go.
