Because life will always throw you challenges, and you have to choose to make the most of it. But more importantly, you have to use the tools and resources, and your inner strength, to pull yourself together and pick yourself back up.

How does that sound? Are you ready to learn how you can pick yourself back up?
PIN NOW, READ LATER!
TIP # 1 | Give yourself a break instead of constantly pushing through
Instead of constantly pushing through the discomfort and the pain and the fatigue and the emotions, how back you give yourself a goddamn break?
Yes. I said. GIVE YOURSELF A GODDAMN BREAK!
Because you know what? Life is hard enough as it is, especially if you’re going through a challenging time.
Why push yourself all the time?
We already live in a world where we’re constantly on-the-go and pulled in a thousand different directions. If you’re already down and struggling, why are you making things hard for yourself?
Because realistically, you can’t always be performing at 110% or pushing yourself beyond your limit. That’s not realistic and it’s completely unfair to you.
Because if you want to be able to pick yourself back up, you have to allow yourself time to breathe, live, and just be. ESPECIALLY if you’re going through a hard time.
You have to learn how to fill your cup, give yourself the time to rest and recuperate your energy to feel better.
Some examples of simple things that will help you regain energy to then be able to pick yourself back up include :
- Watching a movie without feeling guilty about it;
- Leaving the dirty dishes one extra night and taking a bath instead;
- Ordering dinner instead of worrying about cooking and doing the dishes;
- Leaving the chores for another day and getting some rest instead;
In other words, if you want to be able to pick yourself back up, you have to first and foremost take care of yourself the way you would want a close friend, a sister, your mother, or anyone you care about, to be taken care of.
TIP # 2 | Take it day-by-day, and one step at a time
If you’re going through a hard time, it’s easy to get caught up in the thoughts and emotions and the “what ifs” and trying to plan and control the outcome.
You can’t. Because life doesn’t work that way.
Sometimes, you just have to let go and let the process and journey unfold as it is meant to. You have to learn how to take it day-by-day, one step at a time, and to stop overthinking everything so that you can stop wasting your energy and focus on yourself so that you can feel better.
Keep in mind that I’m not saying that you should stop planning altogether. Some level of planning is always good. But at a certain point, you have to let go and just go with the flow.
Because you can’t control everything in life, and the more you let go, the easier it will be to appreciate the journey and the present moment, because the future is not guaranteed.
In everything in life, the only thing you have control over is how you choose to experience life and how you choose to feel. You have to choose how you want to experience the present moment, instead of living in the past or in the future.
TIP # 3 | Done is better than perfect
If you’re a perfectionist like I am, then this one might not sit very well with you, but hear me out.
No matter what you’re doing, always do your best.
But what you have to remember is that your best is good enough, no matter what.
Especially if you’re going through a hard time or you’re going through a busy time in your life, you have to be more realistic with your expectations of yourself about how much you can and should be doing.
Because your worth is not based on how much you do, but who you are as a person. And when you’re going through a challenging time, you have to allow yourself some leeway to be able to save some of your energy to be able to pick yourself back up.
TIP # 4 | Find the right support system
This is another important one – your support system is vital to your well-being, especially if you’re trying to get through a challenging time in your life.
You have to surround yourself with people that understand you, who will not judge you. You have to have a support system with who you can break down and cry when you need to, and be able to completely be yourself with.

Your support system has to be with people that you trust fully because it’s important to be in a safe environment where you can experience whatever emotions you need to experience, so that you can release it, pick yourself back up and move on.
Find people that will either just be there with you and sit with you with the emotions, and when the time comes, are able to help you work through the emotions and move forward.
TIP # 5 | Stick to your habits
If you’re going through a challenging time, or even if you just have a very hectic life, then you know how easy it can be to get sidetracked from your habits. Because let’s be real, it’s a lot easier to start eating junk food or skipping a workout or your morning routine.
But sticking to your healthy habits is important, especially if you’re trying to pick yourself back up! And I can’t stress this enough.
The better you feel physically, the more energy you will have to tackle whatever is happening because how you feel in your body will directly impact how you feel emotionally.
Think about it : if you feel sluggish or tired because you haven’t been exercising and you’ve been eating like sh*t, how do you think this will impact or energy levels and your emotional management?
Trust me, it will be a lot more difficult to manage your emotions or deal with the stress. And then you won’t have the internal resources to pick yourself back up and get through the challenging times.
But if you feel strong, healthy, full of energy, you will have an easier time coping with the challenges in your life and you will be able to pick yourself back up a lot quicker.
TIP # 6 | Don’t lose sight of the good
I’ve been there, when you feel so sad and down that you’re replaying all the things that are going wrong in your life.
But no matter how bad things seem, you have to try and remind yourself of the things that you love about your life, the things that you have in your life, and the things that you enjoy doing and that make you happy.
Especially when you’re going through a hard time, you have to find small moments of joy and hang on to them. Because those are the moments that will pull you through and help you pick yourself back up.
Cherish the moments of laughter you have with a friend, or connecting with someone, or moments where you feel okay. Don’t rush back into the feeling of stress or sadness, but cling to the moments of joy to remind yourself that you have felt okay in the past, and that you will feel okay in the future.
And this is true even if you’re not going through a particularly hard time in your life : always put your life in perspective and remember the good.
TIP # 7 | Get the help you need
Remember that asking for help is NOT a sign of weakness but rather a sign of strength. If you’re going through a hard time and you’re struggling to pick yourself back, get the help that you need, right away.
Whatever that help is, ask for it. And even if you don’t know what help you might need, reach out to your support system and figure out what that help looks like.
Maybe it’s the help of a therapist. Or maybe you just need to spend time with your friends. Whatever it is, get the help that you need before it gets to a point of no return.
Get Started!
To start you off, pick ONE of the above tips and apply them RIGHT AWAY!
I’m serious! Take immediate action and you will feel proud and happy with yourself that you did something to take care of yourself to pick yourself back up. And then you can keep the momentum going.
Even if it’s a small step like texting or calling a friend, right now, to tell them that you need support because you’re going through a hard time. Or maybe you can cross out your to-do list for tonight and schedule a bath or a pamper session.
