Your home should feel like a calm haven from the world, a place where you can re-centre yourself, regain your energy, and feel at peace. Creating a happy home is easy, you just have to create intentional habits. And happiness starts with small, intentional habits, especially within your home.
Months before I moved (let alone found my new place), I sat down to write my vision for my home : How did I want to feel in my space? What energy did I want in the home? How did I want the space to look like? What emotions did I want to experience?
And here we are: I have (almost) settled into my new home where I feel comfortable, at peace, and most importantly…happy.
Your home is a place where you come to at the end of the day to get away from the world. It should feel like a physically and emotionally comforting space, where you can be at peace, where you can feel like yourself.
Most importantly, your home should make you feel happy. It’s where you spend most of your time, and where you need to be able to feel vulnerable and at ease so that you can regain your energy, to be able to enjoy and live life, and to able to achieve your biggest goals.
Through small, intentional changes, you can create a happy home – a place where you can flourish and feel like yourself. Here are 5 tips for you to create an intentional and happy home.

TIP # 1 | Decorate with plants
Your home should feel like a beautiful, calming space, and what better way to decorate than with PLANTS!
If you follow me on Instagram then it’s no secret that I’ve become a crazy plant lady (#NoShame).
I love plants because not only do they add LIFE to my home, but they’re also beautiful to look at. This is just an added bonus to the mental and physical benefits of having plants in your home.
I also love how caring for my plant babies has become a mindfulness practice where I’m able to tune out, focus on an easy but loving task of caring for something. And it feels so fulfilling to see my plants thrive and grow.
It’s also a reminder for myself that if I’m able to take care of another living thing, that it means that I am also able to take care and love myself the same way.
TIP # 2 | Diffuse essential oils
You have to constantly remind yourself that through SMALL, intentional changes, you can create a happier home. And diffusing essential oils is another easy way to do that.
Not only does it create a cozy atmosphere, but there are also numerous benefits to diffusing essential oils.
TIP # 3 | Use non-chemical products
This was an important change that I wanted to make in my new home : to limit the amount of chemical products I used.
Not only am I saving money by reducing the amount of cleaning products I use, but I’m also doing my part for the environment.
By being intentional with the products I use in my home and on my body, I am not knowing practicing self-love and self-care, but I’m also creating a happier home where I know that the products that I’m using are not bad for me nor for the environment.
TIP # 4 | De-clutter your space
I’m a firm believer that a clear space means a clear mind. I’ve been using the Marie Kondo technique for over a year now and I must say that it has been life-changing.
Every item in my home has a specific purpose. Whether it brings me because of the memory it brings, or whether it has a utility (i.e. yo’ girl needs a broom, after all!) but every item has a purpose and a place in my home.
By having a de-cluttered space, and less crap, I have the mental space to focus my thoughts and energy on the things that matter. I also waste less time constantly tidying up, which is another great thing because I can spend more time on my blog or my podcast or resting!
TIP # 5 | Everything has a place + purpose
This is closely related to tip # 4, but I wanted to drive my point about the importance of being very intentional with everything that you bring into your home. Everything should have a place and a purpose.
If everything has a place, this becomes a lot easier for you to tidy and put things away, which means that you waste less energy at the end of the day tidying things up. And if everything has a purpose, then you are detached from the material things in your life that are not serving you and not bringing any real value to your life.
