Learning how to channel your mindset is your most powerful tool because you can learn to direct your thoughts, actions and emotions. By learning how to change your mindset, you will unlock unlimited possibilities because your mind the power to control how you experience life.
The brain is a funny thing. It has the ability to make you feel AMAZING and it can just as quickly make you feel like shit.
How?
Because your mind controls your thoughts and your thoughts create your reality.
Yes, it’s that simple.
At the end of the day, how you experience life and the challenges, situations and interactions that you face on a daily basis will be determined by the quality of your thoughts, which is directed by your mindset.
[bctt tweet=”The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your thoughts” username=”seppyforlove”]
Therefore understanding and channeling the power of your mindset is the key to unlocking all the possibilities that the world has to offer and unlocking a quality of life benson your wildest dreams.
What is your mindset
I mean…not to be too obvious and cheeky about it, but your mindset is the state that your mind is in.
You’re probably thinking “Duh, Seppy!” but it really is that simple.
Are your negative thoughts holding you back from living every day to its fullest? Improve your mindset by practicing daily gratitude.
Your mindset is the framework within which your mind thinks, associates, perceives, interprets and reacts to situations. Are you coming from a mindset of abundance or scarcity? In other words, is your assessment of a situation based on a positive, empowering, inspiring and solution-oriented thought process, or are you coming from a place where you feel defeated, discouraged and frustrated?
Your mind is the place where everything begins: where thoughts are founded and subsequent emotions emerge. Your mindset therefore dictates your thoughts, actions, behaviours, emotions, feelings and choices.
[bctt tweet=”Your mindset dictates your thoughts, actions, behaviours, emotions, feelings and choices. What mindset will YOU choose today?” username=”seppyforlove”]
The crazy part is that your mindset starts to be shaped from a very young age, without you even realizing it. Your upbringing, your experiences, what you’re taught, where you grow up, what you’re exposed to… all those factors will impact your mindset because they shape the pathways or the framework within which your brain will interpret, assess and then react and respond to anything that you face.
People often refer to a positive or negative mindset, which gives a bit of a distinction and helps us understand what it is and how it can impact your life.
A positive mindset is when you are able to direct your thoughts towards a more empowering and inspired place. Where you interpret and react to situations from a good place. Where you are able to see the silver lining and appreciate any experience for what it is instead of not what it could be.
[bctt tweet=”Cultivate a positive mindset so that you are able to appreciate any experience for what it is instead of not what it could be” username=”seppyforlove”]
A negative mindset is when your general approach and attitude will be based on discouragement, frustration and feeling oppressed and hopeless. You perceive situations as punishments and disempowering rather than being able to motivate yourself to tackle it head on.
An attitude of abundance and growth will create a more empowering and positive environment where you can continue to grow and prosper, whereas a negative mindset will foster more negativity and will ultimately be destructive in your life.
Now here’s a curveball for you: there are no real ‘positive’ or ‘negative’ emotions or situations.
What we believe is positive or negative is actually just our mindset about it.
[bctt tweet=”There are no true negative or positive experiences or emotions in life. Only negative or positive associations that we have to them. #MindBlown” username=”seppyforlove”]
Mind-blown yet?
I’m sure you’ve noticed it before – why does one person get so frustrated and angry sitting in traffic, while another person, also sitting the same traffic, is enjoying the music that’s playing on the radio and happily singing along?
One person is interpreting the situation as something frustrating, out of their control and they’re letting their impatience affect their mindset and how they are feeling in the moment and experiencing that situation.
While the second person is accepting that they don’t have control over the traffic and they are choosing to simply enjoy the music and make it a pleasant experience.
And that’s the power of your mindset: your ability to redirect your thoughts, emotions and meaning of a situation that you are facing.
Why Your Mindset is Important
From the previous example, you can see that your mindset can determine how you will interpret and subsequently experience a situation that you are facing.
Will it be challenging and frustrating or will you embrace it, go with the flow, and enjoy it as much as possible?
Your mindset is the framework of your thoughts, and your thoughts create your reality. Change your mindset, change your reality.
[bctt tweet=”Your thoughts create your reality. Change your mindset, change your reality” username=”seppyforlove”]
If you want to be frustrated from a situation, you will be. If you want to enjoy something, then you can. It’s all in how you choose to interpret and see it and from what lens you choose to see it through.
The more you channel your thoughts to a more empowering, inspiring and encouraging place, the easier it becomes to appreciate life experiences for what they are, rather than always fighting it and being frustrated.
The more your re-direct your mindset toward an empowering place, the more your actions and behaviours will reflect that mindset and how you experience life situations and challenges.
Your mindset directly affects the quality of your life.

How your Mindset is your Most Powerful Tool
As mentioned before, how you choose to direct your thoughts, how you interpret a situation or challenge, will directly affect how you feel about a situation.
When it comes to goal-setting and goal-slaying, you need to adopt a mentality of DREAM BIG and ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. But that can be hard, depending on your past experiences and your limiting beliefs.
So when it comes to slaying your goals, a lot of it has to do with your mindset: what you believe is possible and impossible, what you believe you can and can’t achieve, and ultimately, your mindset are the limitations that you set on yourself.
How far will you let yourself dream? Will you truly believe in your ability to achieve those big goals that you’ve always dreamed of?
And when you’re going through the process of working on your goals and trying to achieve them, how you interpret a setback, or not being able to meet a particular timeline, your interpretation of what that means will determine the rest of your journey.
For example, if you get discouraged and disheartened by a “setback”, then you might just give up on that goal rather than seeing it as a sign that you need to change your approach, update your strategy or figuring out a better way to achieve that goal.
There’s *ALWAYS* a more empowering way to look at a situation.
If you can train yourself to adopt a more positive mindset where setbacks are welcomed and challenges are seen as opportunities to improve, learn and grow as an individual, then you are WINNING at life because nothing will be hard or challenging anymore but you will feel excited for the opportunity to learn something.
Real-Life Mindset Transformation Example
A couple of weeks ago, I dragged myself to the gym after work, already not in a great mood after a challenging day at work. I change into my gym clothes and then realize that I forgot my sneakers at home.
My initial reaction was to be frustrated for myself for forgetting, then getting annoyed that I just wasted 30 minutes of my time coming to the gym and changing into my workout clothes, until I realized that I’m making the experience harder and more frustrated then it needed to be.
I decided instead that this was a sign from the Universe that I needed to go home, grab my sneakers, and go for a jog by the water close to my house. This gave me the opportunity to be home even earlier than planned had I stayed at the gym to do a workout, AND I was able to enjoy the beautiful weather, especially considering that I was in an office all day and hadn’t had time to step outside to enjoy the sun and the blue skies.
In the end, I reduced the amount of negative energy and stress in my body, I still managed to exercise, AND I had the added bonus of being able to enjoy being outside to enjoy the weather and get some Vitamin-D!
Mindset Exercise
The best way to learn a concept is to practice it, so let’s practice transforming your mindset RIGHT NOW.
- Think of a recent situation that you found challenging and/or discouraging:
- What happened?
- Why did you feel discouraged/frustrated?
- What’s a more empowering way that you can see that situation where you feel more positive and encouraged?
- Can you learn something from it?
- Can you perhaps change your approach?
- Is this an opportunity to grow and learn something new?
Another important dimension of how your mindset can help you achieve your goals is your ability to focus on the opportunity for growth because you believe so strongly in your mind and heart that your goal will become reality, but that you have a path to follow and that you know that whatever situation or challenges that arises is part of your journey for a reason because you need to learn something from it.
In this scenario, you’ve adopted a mindset of appreciation for the journey of growth you’re on because you know that it’s not only about achieving the goal but about the person that you are becoming in the process/along the way.

Good tips on changing negativity to create value from any difficult situation. Sometimes the simplest approach can make a world of difference. For me, to stop a flow of negative self-talk, I initially envision a large, red stop sign. This hastens my awareness of my negative tendencies. Then, I work toward finding the lesson or search for something positive within the situation. I find that the more I look for the positive, the better I get at finding it. I like your questions to prompt the journey toward the light. Nice blog!

Great post. I think one of the best ways to develop a positive mindset sometimes is simply to take a break. Refresh in nature or with some exercise or with a relaxing book or movie. Then tackle it anew with rejuvenated energy.
