Gratitude is the foundation of success because it cultivates a positive and uplifting environment so that you have the energy to find the resources and strategies to slay your goals and create and build your dream life.
I’ve talking about the power of gratitude and how it can transform your mindset. If you’ve gone through the Ultimate Goal-Setting Resource Library, there’s a whole section dedicated to gratitude…and there’s a reason for that. Because gratitude is foundation of success.
If there’s one habit you should focus on cultivating, it’s gratitude. In the past year, practicing daily gratitude has had the biggest impact on my life. It has transformed my mindset, my perception and my general well-being.
Beyond goal-setting, I would really encourage you to do yourself a favour and at the very least give yourself the gift of this habit because it will truly create a more positive, happy and overall better life. Trust me!
Coming from someone who always struggled with having a positive mindset, practicing daily gratitude was the key that got me started on this path towards success.
{ What is gratitude }
Gratitude goes beyond saying “thank you” for something you have received or experienced. It’s an active and engaged emotional reaction where you are expressing thanks and recognition for something while also experiencing strong positive feelings.
[bctt tweet=”Gratitude is feeling and expressing appreciation for something that you have or that you experience because you recognize the value that it brings in your life ” username=”seppyforlove”]
That’s why gratitude is so powerful, because you are feeling the emotions behind being thankful. It goes beyond expressing “Thank you”, you are feeling the emotions of gratitude for having something because you know the value it brings you or how lucky you are to have it.

{ Why gratitude is the foundation of success }
Gratitude is a crucial element of goal-slaying and is the key to success in anything that you do because setting and achieving goals boils down to your mindset. How you experience life also boils down to your mindset.
If at your core, you truly believe and know that anything is possible, then you will find any way possible to make it happen. If you always think that life is happening FOR you and not TO you, then you will experience life very differently than someone who is in a victim or negative mindset.
[bctt tweet=”Gratitude is the foundation of success because you create a mindset of abundance where anything is possible and solutions are easily available to you ” username=”seppyforlove”]
By practicing gratitude, you are setting yourself up for success because you mind will always find a solution, a new strategy and a new alternative to get to your end goal. A defeat or a challenge will only be a mere obstacle to your end result because your mind will constantly be finding new ways to overcome them.

{ How does gratitude affect your mindset? }
Your mind is a muscle that you can train to function and react a certain way. In other words, you can train your brain to be more positive. You can train yourself to look at situations in a more empowering way. You can learn how to welcome a challenge rather than be afraid of it.
[bctt tweet=”You can train your mind to welcome a challenge rather than being afraid of it” username=”seppyforlove”]
It might take time and consistent effort, but the same way you can go to the gym and train your muscles to lift weights, you can teach your mind how to react and respond to particular situations so that they are easier to manage.
You can literally teach your mind to say “YASSS! Another challenge!!!” because you know that if you push through and find a solution and overcome that challenge, you will come out of it stronger and wiser.
[bctt tweet=”A challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow – be grateful for it and welcome it with open arms!” username=”seppyforlove”]
If you’re not convinced yet, here are a few more reasons why gratitude is so important and how it will impact your goal-slaying journey.
{ Gratitude makes you more positive & empowered }
When you practice daily gratitude, it becomes easier to find the little things that you are grateful for and that you probably used to take for granted.
Once you start noticing the little (and big) things that you are grateful for, you create positive emotions because you start feeling happy that you have are blessed with all these amazing and enriching things in your life. You start to realize how much you already do have and how blessed your life ALREADY is!
Try it out for yourself: Set a timer for 5 minutes and start writing the things that you are grateful for. Don’t stop!
Soon you’ll see that you won’t even be able to stop because you will realize truly how many things that you already have in your life that are amazing and incredible and give you comfort, happiness and are a source of inspiration and joy.
[bctt tweet=”Share 3 things that you are grateful for RIGHT NOW and share the positivity with the world! ” username=”seppyforlove”]
Now think about it, if you’re feeling positive and uplifted and are in a good mood more often, how do you think you will feel about tackling your goal-slaying list? How do you think that positive and energy and mindset will help in your success?
Are your more likely to feel excited and energetic? Yup…probably!
Like I said before, beyond the fact that practicing daily gratitude will truly transform your mood and mindset, you will start to realize that you have an abundance of energy and all the resources in the world to tackle your goals head on and be successful.

{ Gratitude makes you welcome challenges }
Being (genuinely) grateful for anything and everything in your life creates a more positive mindset. If you train your mind to always see the positive in any situation, then a challenge will be the same.
You will start to see challenges as something that has the potential to make your life richer. By working through challenges and overcoming them, you will become stronger, you will learn about yourself, and you will gain valuable insight and skills that will help you in the future to handle other situations.
[bctt tweet=”Be grateful for challenges because they’re an opportunity to become stronger, to learn about yourself and to gain new skills” username=”seppyforlove”]
It always goes back to your mindset and the brain – train your brain to see the silver lining and the positive and you will start to see that you welcome challenges because you are able to see beyond the current discomfort.
You will be able to see that at the end of the tunnel, there is light where you will feel proud of your growth and progress.
{ Gratitude teaches you to adjust to any situation }
Similar to welcoming challenges, when you are able to be grateful for anything that comes your way, this will make you more likely to adjust to a situation rather than fighting it.
Because you know there is a lot of benefit in challenging situations, you know that the sooner you adjust to it and adapt, the easier the process will be. You are embracing LIFE because guess what, there will always be something coming your way and you only have control over your response to it and how you perceive it.
[bctt tweet=”Embrace life and be grateful for opportunities to learn and grow” username=”seppyforlove”]
If you are grateful for opportunities and challenges because you know the benefits you can reap from it, then you are more likely to adapt to it.
This will benefit your goal-slaying process and your success because you will have to continuously adjust your approach – some goals might be easier to figure out and achieve, but setbacks are inevitable in most situations and how you handle it will determine how quickly you will reach your goal.
{ Gratitude cultivates a mindset of abundance }
Again with the mindset! I know, I know, it might be redundant but I can’t drive the point enough!
Gratitude creates a positive and empowering mindset, right? (and if you’re still not agreeing with me wholeheartedly, go back and re-read this post from the beginning!!)
Therefore if you are grateful for what you already have, then what kind of mindset have you cultivated? Are you focused on what you don’t have and what you’re missing in your life? Or are you happy with what you already have?
Now here’s the crux. Just because you are happy and grateful for what you already doesn’t mean that you can’t want more. It doesn’t mean that you are ungrateful for wanting to reach higher and challenge yourself to get even more.
Being grateful for what you already have means that there is no room for failure because you’re already happy with the status quo! IF you do ‘fail’ at your goal, then WHO THE HECK CARES?! You already have something that you are grateful for, then you’re not missing out on anything!
[bctt tweet=”Being grateful for what you already have means that there is no room for failure because you’re already happy with the status quo! ” username=”seppyforlove”]
But slaying your goals and being successful will just make the deal sweeter. It’ll just make you even happier than you already are.
{ How to practice gratitude }
Just start. I mean, it really is that simple. Right now, stop and think about 3 things that you are truly and deeply grateful for. Whether it’s someone in your life, an experience you’ve had, something in your home… a meal you just ate. It can be ANYTHING.
I made gratitude worksheets to help you cultivate this habit. Print these pages and leave them on your night table so that every night, you can write down what you’re grateful for so that you can go to bed with a mindset of gratitude and abundance.
I’ve made it a habit to start every day by writing down 3 things that I’m grateful for. No time? Then you can THINK about 3 things that you are grateful for when you are getting ready in the morning. No excuses!
I’m also lucky to have a great accountability buddy – my mother-in-law! Since January 1st, we’ve basically texted each other every single day to share with each other 3 things that we are grateful for. Not only is this a wonderful way to connect with her but it’s also a good way to be reminded by someone else in case I forgot to my morning practice.
{ Take immediate action }
Yes, this is how important I think it is for you to practice daily gratitude.
Here are a few ideas of what you can do to start your gratitude practice RIGHT NOW. Pick at LEAST one from the list and DO IT.
- Call or text a friend or family member and ask them to be your accountability buddy
- Find a notebook and a pen and leave it somewhere accessible for you to write down your gratitude journal in the morning or in the evening (I leave mine in the dining room where I sit every morning to do my morning routine)
- Download a few copies of this gratitude journal and leave it somewhere visible for you to write your gratitude prompts daily (same concept as the notebook).
- Set a daily reminder on your phone to practice gratitude
Gratitude is really the easiest and most powerful habit that you should cultivate so that you can successfully slay your goals!

It’s honestly pretty scary to think of all the time I once spent NOT feeling grateful for what I had, and I am determined to make up for it! I constantly say out loud and in my head how grateful I am for all that I have, how every bad situation could have been a lot worse, and how much I genuinely love everything in my life. Actively practicing gratitude has completely changed my life, and it’s amazing to go to sleep every night with a smile on my face, as young me would have never thought that was possible!
Sepideh says
Oh .. I’m with you on that – I feel like I wasted so many years being worried and focusing on the wrong thing but you know what, better late than ever!! Be grateful that you learned your lesson now and not when you’re 80 years old!!!
